The Scottish Consortium on Crime and Criminal Justice, in conjunction with Howard League Scotland and the Royal Conservatoire Scotland, are holding a film and short talk event on Wednesday 13th November, 7:30pm at the RCS.

There will be a screening of the Danish film “Fangekoret” – about a prisoners’ choir in Denmark.

The production company, Sfinx-Film, says of the film:

Brian Bo, Bergur, Karsten and Jesper are confined in the Danish state prison in Vridsløselille. They all have their individual criminal story, but they share the singing in the prison choir. When meeting their charismatic choirmaster Louise Adrian the bad boys with the soft voices are inspired to write their own songs. Through the poetry they talk of their destinies and tell the depth of their thoughts and dreams. The prison choir is a breathing space in an otherwise harsh and enclosed world. Even after being released most of the prisoners continue being active in the choir and sing courageously their personal stories at concerts all over the country. The music shows new ways and makes them feel like giving up their criminal career – but it is a long and tough way. The Prisoners’ Choir is a film begins where most detective films end.

The RSC has included this in their “Short talks” series and we are delighted that Louise Adrian, the choir mistress, will be with us to speak about the choir and answer questions.

The event will be chaired by Prof. Fergus McNeill, Professor of Criminology and Social Work, University of Glasgow and member of the Scottish Consortium on Crime and Criminal Justice.

Tickets cost £5 (£3 concessions)
